It’s taken me a while to fully understand(oh wait I don’t) the scope & intention of Mozilla’s Open Badges. Seems you can be recognized for skills, and achievements accomplished outside the classroom. I’m both optimistic (yay! being recognized without paying for a certification or degree – about time!) and confused how it can be of greater influence than a resume with references. If I am hiring someone, a badge is only a more visual version of text?
For younger people I totally get it – Hacksaurus has a great group of badges to award young learners, and looking at the Stage 1 winners of the Open Badges competition I’m beginning to see that a badge can be as easy, difficult, routine or challanging-to-complete as intended.
Still thinking on it…but worth paying attention too and will use badges in my next lesson March 16th
